North Battleford Scouts shovel snow ahead of Remembrance Day

The 2nd North Battleford Scouts and Beavers gathered together at the Cenotaph this week, to shovel snow away from the monument ahead of Remembrance Day, Wednesday.

Will Picard is one of the leaders with the local scouts group, and said the idea to chip in and help clear some snow from around the park area came about naturally, after the large snowfall that blew in over the weekend.

Picard said the group usually meets on Mondays so the excess snow provided a good opportunity to give back as a group, while also getting some fresh air and exercise, and having fun in the process.

“We just figured it was a nice way to give back a little bit, by helping to shovel out the Battlefords Cenotaph,” he said. “That way seniors and veterans and other people can still pay their respects to the Cenotaph this week, without having to trudge through a couple feet of snow.”

With a full contingent of eager kids on hand to help take part, Picard and the other group leaders said they were happy to see such an enthusiastic turnout, excited to get outside, and get up for the challenge.

“It was great, we had a really good turnout with all our kids and everyone was having a blast, so no one was complaining at all,” Picard laughed. “We just hope it teaches the kids a little bit about Remembrance Day too, throughout our meeting as we finish up as well.”
