Twin Rivers Curling Club to return ice next week

Sep 25, 2020 | 1:00 PM

The Twin Rivers Curling Club will be putting their ice back in the rink next week, signaling the return of the curling season.

General manager of the club, Doug Flasch, said the plan is to turn the plant on Tuesday, Sept. 29 to begin the ice-making process by Wednesday.

Flasch said the decision to go ahead with a curling season this year was not made lightly. However, after months of discussion and meetings, both as a board and with the club’s members, it became clear hosting a season was in fact the right way to go.

“We got a COVID-19 committee together and we’ve been meeting on almost a by-weekly basis [throughout the process],” Flasch said. “They made some recommendations and we had an overwhelming response from our members that they wanted to curl this year, so we decided we were going to go ahead with it.”

The goal is to have the ice implementation process completed within a 10-day span, and ready by the weekend of Oct. 10.

League play at the curling club will begin Oct. 13, with the commencement of the New Horizons and Tuesday Competitive half-seasons.

Flasch said the club is very much looking forward to returning to the ice, and seeing the community again taking part in the game of curling.

“We’re very excited,” he said. “We’ve been sitting around and waiting, not knowing what was going to happen for some time. Now that we know we’re going to go ahead, we’ve got plans in place and we’re ready to roll.”

Those intending on taking part in the upcoming events at Twin Rivers Curling Club this year are asked to preregister ahead of time when possible. To register today, click here.
