“The first game was a little interesting just because we got rained out after five and a bit and decided that was just going to be called for game one. Really good pitching performance from Gavin Nolan and our bats kind of stayed alive,” said Gregoire.

“Game 2 was definitely a little bit of a different game. We got up to a really strong first few innings. I think we were up 13 to 2…couldn’t finish off the game and played full seven, but it was nice to see the bats alive there. Really set us up going into the finals now.”

With the finals being a rematch of last year’s championship series, Gregoire said there could be some animosity, but added they are all there to have fun playing ball.

“Everybody is a competitor in this league. And I think just as you play teams throughout the year, over and over and over again, I think definitely we’ve had some good battles,” said Gregoire.

“At the end of the day, we’re here to have some fun and play a good game of baseball and just have some excitement. It’ll be a pretty interesting and great series for fans to come out and watch.”

When asked what the team will have to be cautious of in the finals, Gregoire did not single anything out, but said the Cardinals have a well-balanced team that can be a threat anywhere on the field.

“They’re not easy outs. We’re definitely going to be having to capitalize on some of our stronger pitching there. And then the defence that we’ve had throughout the year, it’s going to be crucial,” he said.

“They have some really strong pitchers as well. So we’re just going to have to step up in big moments and try to scrape two wins here.”

A series win would give the Beavers their fourth straight NSRBL championship.

Game 1: July 28 at 7:30 p.m. in North Battleford

Game 2: July 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Unity

Game 3, if necessary: Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in North Battleford
