Hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic is an issue affecting many families in the Battlefords and beyond and Walmart Canada and is donating to food banks across the country to address it.

Customers and associates of Walmart Canada stores and online, raised more than $4,000,000 in support of their communities, with the corporation then matching $2,000 per store. As a result, almost $12,000 will go to the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre. This is part of the Walmart 2020 Fight Hunger, Spark Change campaign, benefitting food banks who are matched with Walmart through the Retail Food Program.

Fifty per cent of the spending is being put toward purchasing fresh food and moving or sharing food, 40 per cent to investments in the ability to pick up food and 10 per cent for general operating support. The investment window to spend and report the funds is December 31.

The Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre provided services to more than 2,000 people in March alone this year.
