Full steam ahead for summer roadway projects in North Battleford

Aug 10, 2020 | 4:21 PM

Despite a rainy summer, several major infrastructure projects are finished or nearing completion in North Battleford, with several more scheduled for the next two months.

Underground utility work is completed on 110 Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, 100 Street between 12th and 14th Avenues and Carleton Trail/Yellow Sky Drive. Similar work is planned for 101 Street, beginning today, as well as 100 Street north of 20th Avenue in early September.

Mayor Ryan Bater credited administrators for construction planning.

“It’s very exciting to see these projects develop and of course, to be on schedule is very good news,” Bater said.

Areas that have complete underground utility work now have roadway reconstruction underway. The 100 Street rehabilitation planned for completion by September 26, with the 1200 and 1300 blocks closed to traffic, but open to pedestrians from the back alley. Drinking water advisories are in place for affected buildings until the mains are tested and commissioned.

“There’s still quite a bit of work to do, but so far everything is going according to how it was planned,” Bater said.

Traffic flow will change in several areas, with the work on 101 Street, as well as Carleton Trail and Yellow Sky Drive. The city has also completed runway resurfacing for the airport, a project that has taken several years to complete. Bater thanked the province for the co-funding provided through the Community Airport Runway Project.

“Because of that, we now have a new runway and aircraft can land much [more safely],” he said.

95 Street from 15th to 16th Avenues will have road closures and drinking advisories from August 25 to September 4 for utility work, with the roadway restoration expected to finish by the end of next month. The utility work for the service road on 100 Street begins September 8.

“We have to actually award the project to the contractors, so that will be on the agenda for this Monday’s council meeting,” Bater said.
