North Battleford approved for Provincial Disaster Assistance Program for flooding

The City of North Battleford is pleased to announce it has been approved for the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) for flooding from heavy rains on July 7 and 8, after just recently applying.

“We’re really happy first of all that council was able to meet so quickly, and to pass the resolution and get the application in,” Mayor Ryan Bater told battlefordsNOW. “Then, the quick turn-around from the province, we’re also grateful for that. So this is a great example of the city and the provincial government working together for city residents during this difficult time.”

Essentially the province has approved the city’s status as an eligible coverage area.

Dustin MacDonald, communications administrator for the city, said a property owner’s first step is to call their private insurance companies to see what coverage they do have. They should document everything, and if necessary then apply to PDAP.

“Residents are to apply to their private insurance,” MacDonald said in an email to battlefordsNOW. “PDAP is assistance for uninsurable losses of essential goods to help people get back to pre-disaster conditions, if they are an eligible claimant.”

According to the city, property owners are responsible for completing their PDAP application and submitting their claim to the province.

People can access the PDAP application instructions, guidelines and forms on the City of North Battleford’s website.

The city encourages residents to share the package with friends and family who do not have access to the internet.

People can also pick up the PDAP package directly at city hall during regular business hours when the facility is open again to the public starting July 13.

Application deadlines

The city is advising residents to note the following important deadlines.

Registration of claims must be returned to PDAP by January 8, 2021. Work must be completed by July 8, 2021.

Property owners must complete and return the Private Property Application form to PDAP as soon as possible.

People must submit original applications with original signatures for PDAP claim files to be considered.
