Town Hall open again following some COVID-19 related minor renovations

The Town Hall in Battleford is seeing visitors again in-person after re-opening last week.

The building had previously been closed to the public since the end of March due to the province’s COVID-19 restrictions, although the town was still able to provide services to residents over the phone and online.

Crews have since completed some minor renovations to the interior, including installing a plastic barrier in the customer service area.

Mayor Ames Leslie is pleased with the results.

“We renovated the whole reception-area so it is a bit more user-friendly, and adds a little bit of a level of full security for when people are coming in,” he said.

Leslie added workers were also able to install a shield in the public area to meet COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

“[The renovation] actually looks really good. It’s nice and modern, but still fits the decor of the historic building,” he said. “So they did a wonderful job.”

The town is asking people to continue to maintain a social distance of at least two metres between one another when entering the site.

The town is still accepting credit cards for payments for taxes or utility bills until the end of this year only, at which time the matter will be reviewed.

When the issue was recently discussed at council, members were concerned about the town being required to cover the credit card’s issuing bank’s two to three per cent fee for processing credit card payments.

But due to the unprecedented times, council agreed to administration’s proposal to allow residents to have more options available to pay during the COVID-19 pandemic.
