City working on a number of capital projects this summer

The City of North Battleford has a number of capital projects underway in the months ahead, including the Carlton Trail improvements and several Underground Pipeline and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) initiatives.

The Carlton Trail and Yellow Sky Drive upgrades are currently underway near the Walmart east access, to improve traffic flow and accommodate future development in that part of the city.

“It is coming along quite nicely,” City Manager Randy Patrick said.

Crews installed the water-main last week and are preparing to complete the rest of the work next.

“There is a fair amount there to be done,” Patrick said. “It really is something that will make that part of the city more accessible, and will allow development in the area.”

According to the city’s statement, crews are completing underground utility work to install a new water-main along Yellow Sky Drive, and improve drainage infrastructure at the intersection with Carlton Trail. The city reported the underground work was planned to be completed earlier this week, with road construction to be done after that.

Road closures and lane restrictions will be in place as the work proceeds. The city said no further water-service disruptions are planned in the area. Workers are expected to complete roadway construction by July 25. The work includes constructing a centre-median along Carlton Trail at the current Frontier Way intersection, for a right-in, right-out access to Walmart via Carlton Trail. The project will also include constructing a new signaled intersection at Yellow Sky Drive, and extending Yellow Sky Drive to the North.

Another project the city has planned ahead is rehabilitating the 100 Street north-end service road. The city states it is waiting for confirmation of external funding before scheduling the project.

The city also plans resurfacing work for a runway at the Cameron McIntosh Airport, under the Saskatchewan Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program. The project is planned to proceed, with scheduling again dependent on confirmation of external funding, according to the city.

100th Street upgrades continue

Downtown on 100th Street from 12 to 14 Avenues underground utility work is planned to begin July 2, with the replacement of water mains and underground building service-connections, the city reports.

The work will start on the 1200 block and move northward. Roadway reconstruction work is planned to begin August 10, with the project expected to be complete September 26. The city said the 1200 and 1300 blocks of 100 Street will be closed to traffic, but pedestrian access to businesses will remain open from the back alley. Water service disruptions are expected on the 1200 and 1300 blocks of 100 Street while the underground pipework proceeds.

Businesses will be notified prior to service disruptions, and affected addresses will be on a drinking-water advisory. Downtown businesses will be able to remain open with alternate access in place, the city said.

The city is encouraging visitors to downtown businesses to plan their trips ahead of time and to “leave a little extra time to find parking.”

Motorists using 100 Street and Railway Avenue as a route through the centre of the city are encouraged to use Territorial Drive as an alternate route, and to avoid traffic congestion on local roads around the downtown while the work is underway. Underground work will be performed by Sanburn Construction, and roadways by G and C Asphalt.

The city also plans upgrades on 95th Street from 15 to 16 Avenues. Underground utility work is planned for July 24 to September 4, along 95th Street from 15 to 16 Avenues. Road closures, water-service disruptions, and drinking-water advisories will be in place. Roadway restoration will follow the underground work and is expected to be completed by September 30. Underground work will be performed by Sanburn Construction, and roadways by G and C Asphalt.

Crews will also be working on 110 Street from 8 to 9 Avenues. Underground utility work is planned for June 15 to June 30 along 110 Street, from 8 to 9 Avenues. Roadway restoration will follow the underground work and is expected to be completed by July 25.

Another project planned ahead is for 101 Street from 19 to 20 Avenues. Underground utility work is planned for August 10 to August 21, along 101 Street from 19 to 20 Avenues. Roadway restoration will follow the underground work and is expected to be completed by September 12.
