Officers from the Battlefords RCMP responded to two separate incidents on Thursday in the 1400 block of 101st Street and 99th Street in North Battleford.

Investigators are examining one man’s death along with a house fire.

At 12:28 p.m., the RCMP Dispatch Centre received a report from local EMS of an adult male who was unresponsive and not breathing, located at a residence by 101 Street. Officers arrived on scene and began a sudden death investigation.

Approximately two hours later, dispatchers received a report of a house fire by 99 Street on the same block. Currently, RCMP officers and local firefighters are on scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates there is no risk to public safety at this time, and has not yet determined if the two incidents are related.

Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area around the 1400 block of 101 Street and of 99th Street at this time. Battlefords RCMP are asking the public to avoid this area and respect direction given by officers on the scene and all police barricades.

Updates will be provided as soon as they are available.
