Walk planned from Saskatoon to N.B. for missing woman Ashley Morin

Family and friends of missing North Battleford woman Ashley Morin are planning a second annual walk to raise awareness that she is still missing.

The walk from Saskatoon to North Battleford will start July 10, the anniversary date of her disappearance, and should finish July 12.

“She is not home yet and we don’t want people to forget that,” family spokesperson and friend Krista Fox said. “We want people to remember that she is out there and somebody knows where she is. Our main focus will always be to bring her home.”

Fox said organizers plan to hold this walk for four years in a row as part of the honouring tradition.

About 25 people are expected to take part in the event.

The walk will be a little different this year in response to COVID-19 precautions.

Fox said a supporter from Green Lake is making “No More Stolen Sisters” facemasks for those attending.

Participants will walk in separate groups and will attempt to maintain a social distance of at least two-metres beyond their immediate households.

“If people want to join us, we do ask that they follow the protocols,” Fox said. “We will do our best to do [the walk] under the circumstances we are in.”

Participants will walk in the daytime and will be shuttled back to North Battleford in the evening each night to sleep at their respective homes. The next morning they will be driven back to the location on the walk from where they left off so they can continue the trek the next day.

People are welcome to donate food or refreshments to walkers, Fox said.

There is currently a $20,000 reward for information leading to Morin’s whereabouts.

Battlefords RCMP Staff Sgt. Jason Teniuk said the police continue to look for answers.

“These types of [investigations] don’t go away,” he said. “Just because we maybe run into a road block or two doesn’t mean they get sidetracked. Everything is actively investigated. We are still looking for assistance from the public to help us move the investigation forward.”

Ashley Morin was 31 when she disappeared. She has been missing since July 10, 2018. Her disappearance was considered suspicious, and the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit North is assisting with the investigation.

If anyone has any information regarding Morin’s whereabouts they are asked to contact the Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
