The North Battleford Fire Department has a new addition to its team.

Colin O’Hara has been appointed as the new deputy chief of prevention and training.

O’Hara has a history in the area as he played with the Battlefords North Stars at one time.

“I’m happy to be back in the Battlefords; it’s a little bit of a homecoming. I’m excited to serve the community,” he said during North Battleford council’s virtual meeting Monday.

Fire Chief Lindsay Holm introduced O’Hara during the Zoom live-stream event.

Holm said O’Hara previously served as deputy chief with the Coldstream Fire Department in British Columbia before coming to the local area.

“I’m very excited to have Colin on board. He has already proven to be an excellent asset to our department,” Holm said.

In addition to his fire-fighting expertise, O’Hara has a history on the ice and once played with the North Stars for a year.

“He is quite a distinguished hockey player,” Holm said. “He has played in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, the WHL [Western Hockey League] and coincidentally in the SJHL [Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League].”

Mayor Ryan Bater said it is great to have O’Hara back in the area, and welcomed him to the North Battleford Fire Department.

Council’s meeting was held online via Zoom to comply with the province’s COVID-19 precaution measures.
