Shorthanded Stars fall 6-1 in Humboldt to close season-series with Broncos

Feb 26, 2020 | 11:38 PM

The Battlefords North Stars fell 6-1 to the Broncos in Humboldt Wednesday, in the final matchup of the season-series between the two sides.

Reid Arnold led the way for the Broncos with a two-goal outing, while Logan Kurki added a pair of points and Braiden Koran, Cody Hough and Logan Foster added a marker each as well while Michael Harroch stopped 21-of-22 Stars’ shots for the win.

Ryland McNinch scored the lone goal for the North Stars in the defeat, while Austin Schwab made 54 saves on 60 shots-against.

Four North Stars made their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) debut during the night’s contest, including Holden Doell, who picked up the primary assist on McNinch’s fifth of the season, for his first career SJHL point.

The North Stars’ loss comes on a night the team was without each of their top 10 scorers and 12 of their top 14, due to a mix of injuries and needed rest down the stretch.

With the Broncos’ victory and a Bruins’ win in Wilcox (the team beat Notre Dame 6-1), Humboldt remain just three points back of Estevan for seventh in the league standings heading into the teams’ final two games.

The North Stars will now get a day off to rest and regroup before returning to action Friday, against the Kindersley Klippers, for their final home game of the regular season at the Civic Centre.

Friday’s game will be broadcast on NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
