City approves Innovation Credit Union for banking services

Oct 19, 2019 | 8:00 AM

North Battleford lawmakers agreed to go with Innovation Credit Union for its banking services for the next five years.

Finance Director Steve Brown said all three proposals received from Innovation Credit Union, Bank of Nova Scotia and BMO Bank of Montreal, met the city’s objectives.

While administration recommended the Bank of Nova Scotia, all three firms were accepted by the city for consideration.

The majority of council moved a resolution to select Innovation Credit Union for the five-year banking agreement.

However, Coun. Greg Lightfoot was opposed as he favoured the Bank of Nova Scotia proposal instead.

“That was put out by Coun. Lightfoot, but I think council saw value in the proposal from Innovation Credit Union,” said Mayor Ryan Bater.

Brown said in his report the city hasn’t issued a request for proposals for banking services in a number of years.

The city’s previous banking agreement with Innovation Credit Union expired on Dec. 31, 2015.
