Severe weather rolls through region, brings high winds, hail

A vigorous low preassure system rolled through west-central Saskatchewan Saturday evening, bringing hail, wind, rain and tornado warnings.

Environment Canada issued a number of severe weather alerts and a tornado warning for the Marsden, Neilburg, Senlac, Unity, Cut Knife and Sweetgrass First Nation areas at around 5:45 p.m.

It was extended to include Edam and Paynton just after 6 p.m. and was lifted around 6:20 p.m.

In a weather summary posted by Environment and Climate Change Canada Sunday morning, wind gusts around 85 km/h were recorded in North Battleford and 83 km/h around Kindersley.

Baseball sized hail between 64 and 75 millimetres was reported about 25 kilometres northeast of North Battleford. Toonie sized hail was found in Meota and around Jackfish Lake, while quarter and nickel sized hail struck around Edam and Martins Lake Regional Park.

It is unknown if any major damage ocurred.
