NBCHS graduation day brings joy, celebration

As the school year winds down, Grade 12 students at North Battleford Comprehensive High School (NBCHS) gathered together with friends and family to celebrate their final day of high school.

For senior Brook Lees, the journey was a positive experience she will look back on fondly. Lees said while the final few weeks may have been busy with studying for finals and getting things sorted ahead of graduation, Friday is a day she’s been looking forward to.

“I feel like my friends and I enjoyed high school to the fullest,” Lees said with a smile. “Studying for finals together, getting study groups together and then in general the parties and group get-togethers, graduation is a fun time.”

For Chaylyn Larocque, who’s from Uranium City, the day marked a milestone she’s looked forward to.

“Coming to high school for the second time and actually graduating, and finishing with high marks, it’s something [I’m proud of],” she said. “It’s better late than never,” she added with a laugh.

Nolen Timmerman, who was involved with the school’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program throughout his time at the high school, wrapped up what is likely the feeling of his class on grad day best, calling it “bitter sweet.”

“I’m ready to be done, but I don’t want to leave at the same time.”

Altogether, 120 students graduated from the Comprehensive High School this year.
