Chamber Golf Challenge a hit

As the sun sets over the greens Friday at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club, it brings with it a conclusion to the sixth-annual Battlefords and Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) Chamber Business Golf Challenge.

Linda Machniak, who serves as chief operating officer with the chamber, said it couldn’t have been a better day to host the challenge.

“It was fabulous; the weather has really held off,” she said. “We know that the farmers need rain, but we had said we can have rain any time after 6 p.m.,” she added with a laugh.

With 115 participants and more than 18 different businesses taking part, the event proved again this year to be on the upswing as the event only continues to grow, a prospect Machniak is pleased with, to say the least.

“The golfers have remained consistent [from] last year to this year, but the holes were all sold out and everybody was doing some great participatory things so it’s been a really good year for us.”

In addition to the golf, participants this year were greeted with various supplementary games and activities on the course throughout the day.

With a duck hunt on hole 13, a couple of marshmallow drives and even some beanbag tosses, Michniak said the bonus engagement ensured participating golfers were “not only golfing, [but] having some really good entertainment while they’re out.”

Alexis Christensen, who took part in the event, echoed the sentiment that the day was a success, saying she and her team had a great time.

“It was fantastic,” Christensen said. “There was a little bit of overcloud, but other than that, [at least] we avoided the rain. I think the chamber did an amazing job of putting the event together in a really well-done way. Every hole had something that was fun, all the businesses came together, and there was lots of laughter.”
