Online fundraiser started to increase reward for info on Ashley Morin’s disappearance

An online auction fundraiser began Friday to raise funds to increase the reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Ashley Morin.

Morin, who would now be 32, has been missing for almost a year since she disappeared in July, 2018.

The auction is being organized by North Battleford resident Alexis Christensen and her mother Leslie-Ann Smith.

Christensen said if the value of the reward increases it will be an added incentive, so someone who knows Morin’s whereabouts might step up.

The reward is currently at $11,000. The goal of the auction is to raise it to $15,000 or more.

“Obviously it hasn’t been enough,” Christensen said of the current reward value. “We need to increase the reward in the hope somebody will eventually come forward. Also, at the same time it raises more awareness, and keeps (Morin’s) name and face out there.”

Christensen believes the online auction fundraiser will be a way for the community to get involved.

“We have had business owners and tons of community members reach out,” she said. “We’re very grateful to any individuals and businesses who want to donate.”

Smith said anything people can do to help find Ashley Morin will make a difference.

“We need to find this young girl. She is one of our own here,” Smith said. “Her family has been here for a long, long time and they are great people.”

To participate in the auction, people can visit the Auction for Ashley Facebook page and bid in the comment section under each item shown.

The auction ends on May 20. Additional donations to be added to the auction are still being accepted while the event is running, and can be dropped off at Anderson Pump House and Empress Carpet One Floor and Home.
