N.B. receives funding for sanitary sewer trunk upgrade project

The City of North Battleford is thrilled it will receive support for a large-scale infrastructure project planned after hearing it has been approved for joint-government funding for its sanitary sewer trunk upgrades, through the New Building Canada Fund.

The federal and provincial governments will each contribute $4,533,333, for a total of about two-thirds of the funding of the roughly $14 million project.

City Manager Randy Patrick said the city will cover the remaining one-third of the price tag.

“It’s nice to see the participation of both the provincial and federal governments on a project that is very large for the city to do by itself,” Patrick told battlefordsNOW of the multi-year project.

Mayor Ryan Bater echoed Patrick’s sentiments.

“This funding agreement with both the federal and provincial governments allows our city to improve and expand our infrastructure, ensuring the protection of our waterways and the sustainable growth of our city,” said Mayor Bater in a statement.

“Without this funding agreement the city would not be able to complete this project on its own,” he added.

The city said the sanitary sewer trunk upgrades will help it alleviate flooding issues in many areas of North Battleford.

The upgrade will help it increase capacity “to handle water surges from intense storms and large runoffs” and support future growth in the city.
