Council approves new pizza restaurant

Feb 12, 2019 | 5:04 PM

North Battleford diners will soon have more choice when deciding where to go for supper. A new pizza restaurant is coming to the city soon.

At its meeting Monday, council approved a discretionary land use application request to establish a pizza restaurant at 1708 Thompson Crescent.

“Council’s job was to strictly deal with the zoning on this,” Mayor Ryan Bater told reporters following the meeting. “That use is a discretionary use within that particular commercial zone. So in order for a business to be able to locate there, council needs to be able to give its discretion.”

The site will be located near North West College, North Battleford Comprehensive High School, Food Land Market, a laundromat and a car wash.

The request indicated the facility would be for a restaurant only, with no associated lounge, so it won’t be licensed to serve alcohol.

The business is expected to be open to about 10 p.m. on weeknights, and until 11 p.m. on weekends.

The city notified landowners within a 75-metre radius of the site. Council didn’t receive any objections to the proposed development.

Bater said it’s good to have more new business coming to the Battlefords.

“We have seen a lot in the last year or two, and it’s nice to see more,” he said.
