Western Development Museum offers trip to the past

Western Development Museum (WDM) is giving residents in the Battlefords the chance to travel back in time.

For the 48th year in a row, WDM will be hosting Those Were the Days in August. This long standing event depicts a 1920s village.

According to Cheryl Stewart-Rahm, Volunteer and Events Coordinator at WDM, the event typically hosts 2,500 to 3,000 people each year and this one is expected to be no different. Stewart-Rahm credits the community for the event’s success each year.

“I think everyone loves to see the museum put to good use,” she said. “Everyone likes the collection [of equipment], they support us, and it’s a really nice family event.”

The event will host numerous activities including a dog show, village demonstrations and a Story of Threshing; a showcase of hand-tool and present-day harvesting.

Those Were the Days will close off each day with a Parade of Power, which boasts over 35 gas tractors, steam engines and vintage vehicles.

Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and children 12 and under are free. A family rate is also available for $35. The event takes place on Aug. 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
