John Paul II Mission team calls for food donations
Students at John Paul II Collegiate Mission team are giving back to the community by hosting a food drive for the North Battleford Food Bank. The initiative, called “Fill the Shelves” is asking students and the community at large to donate non-perishable foods for those in need.
“The food drive is one of our main local initiatives every year,” said Roxanne Stynsky, Fill the Shelves organizer and John Paul II Collegiate staff member. “Four times a year [the Mission team] supports our local Food Bank, and those less fortunate than us in our community that might be struggling.”
In the past, the Mission team only gathered donations at the school level and through door-to-door canvasing. This spring, however, they’re calling for local businesses to work together with the students to donate what they can.
“[The Food Bank’s] shelves are really empty in the spring unfortunately,” said Stynsky. “The kids this year said ‘why don’t we challenge some of our businesses?’ Because there are a lot of businesses in the community that do support the food bank, and sometimes they just need an initiative to get on board.”
