Cheer Legacy Athletics has 5 first-place finishes at provincials

Mar 29, 2017 | 12:00 PM

North Battleford’s Cheer Legacy Athletics had nine top-three finishes at the provincials in Weyburn this past weekend, including five top spots.

Two of their five first-place finishes were for individual performances, two were handed out to stunt groups, and one was given to a full squad.

The individual wins went to Kassie and Dayna, while the stunt group victors were the Queens senior group and the Royalty youth group, each of which are made up of five athletes. Meanwhile, the Nobles, comprised of 16 athletes aged six to eight, finished first in the mini-prep category.

The club also had one individual finish second, Fallon, and three groups finish in third: Imperial, the Regals, and Royals.

Imperial came in third in the mini one category, the Regals came third in the youth prep one category, and the Royals finished in third in the youth two category.

There were roughly 150 total teams in attendance at the provincials.

Nearly all the CLA teams that competed ‘hit zero’, which means they had a perfect routine. Perfect routines, however, don’t guarantee top-place finishes, as routines often have a different degree of difficulty to them, which factors into the scoring.

Next up for CLA is a trial camp the club is holding for prospective athletes who are interested in taking a run at the World Championships, which are held at Disney World every year. The camp is being held just to gauge interest. It will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m at the Frontier Mall on April 2 and anyone 14 and older as of Dec. 31, 2017 is welcome to attend.
