‘Right up their alley’: bowl for kids’ sake returns

Mar 9, 2017 | 4:00 PM

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Battlefords (BBBS) want you to come out and have a ball; bowling ball that is.

After a brief hiatus, the non-profit organization is once again hosting Bowl for Kids Sake on Sunday, March 26 at Gutters Bowling and Game Centre.

“Some businesses and individuals who were involved in the past started asking us back in September if we were going to bring back Bowl For Kids Sake,” Renee Sperling, Program Coordinator with BBBS, said. ”We kind of went back and forth then asked Joe and Kelly Williams at Gutters and they said we should go for it.”

All proceeds from Bowl For Kids Sake will stay in the Battlefords area and go towards programs and events that BBBS do with the youth, families and volunteers of the community. Sperling says it is also a great chance for the community to see what the organization has been up to over the past year.

“They get to learn a bit more about what it means to be involved in BBBS and how they can become a volunteer,” Sperling added. “They have a chance to meet with our staff, other volunteers and maybe even a big (brother or sister) or a little (brother or sister) and ask questions.”

The $20 registration includes a shoe rental and one hour of lane time. Participants can register as an individual or as a team of six with availabilities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for regular bowling and glow bowling from 5 p.m. to  8 p.m.

“We are happy to get on board with the Bowl For Kids’ Sake,” Joe Williams, co-owner of Gutters, said. “When we bought the business we said we would be very community involved and this is right up our alley so to speak.”

Gutters Bowling and Games Centre is donating 100 per cent of all money including staffing to Bowl For Kids Sake on March 26.
