Humboldt animator wins Oscar

Feb 28, 2017 | 5:56 AM

An animator from Humboldt, Sask. can now cross ‘winning an Oscar’ off his list.

Andrew Ford helped animate Disney’s Zootopia which took home best animated film on Sunday night at the 89th Academy Awards.

Ford tells us more than 200 cast and crew members celebrated the win together at the Disney Studios both last Sunday night and this morning.

“We had a toast to the crew this morning,” said Ford. “The directors came by with the actual Oscar, so we got to hear their words and their stories from last night and we kind of reflected back on the movies we’ve made in the past year and a half.”

Ford said people were able to take photos with the award, as shown above. He added that the Directors were keen to also bring a certain envelope for people to see.

“They brought the actual academy envelope, just in case and to assure everyone here that it actually said Zootopia … just to make sure,” Ford said with laughter.

He went on to say that it was nice to be with the crew again since it’s been a long time from when the film was made.

“It’s been about a year and a half since we’ve made Zootopia,” said Ford. “It’s pretty fun to look back and see we were a part of this movie that’s going to be a part of Oscar history forever.”
