Meadow Lake country star Lorrie Church dies after cancer battle

Following her battle with cancer, a local country singer has died.

Lorrie Church died today, Jan. 31 after her lengthy battle since she was diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer in 2015.

Involved with music since a young age, Church was the beneficiary of multiple Saskatchewan Country Music Association awards. In 1996, she was voted Most Promising Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year.

Three years later, in 1999, Church again won the Entertainer of the Year award and was nominated for two National Aboriginal Achievement Awards for Best Country Album and Best Songwriter from the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.
