BUH dialysis expansion will help serve thousands more
The Battlefords Union Hospital will be able to treat almost 50 per cent more dialysis patients, thanks to a joint funding announcement today totalling over $1 million.
The dialysis unit has moved to a larger space, and introduced three more chairs to be able to facilitate more patients. This eliminated the need for some patients to constantly travel to Saskatoon for care, multiple times a week in some cases. Now operating with nine chairs, the unit will now be able to serve 5,600 treatments a year, compared to the previous 1,800 it once was able to.
The chemo therapy unit was able to move into the dialysis unit’s old space, giving it a space with more light and more room.
The BUH recently made some changes to these units, renovating and moving to new spaces to give patients better and more comfortable care.
