WINNIPEG — An annual awards ceremony that celebrates people who work toward gender equality is being held in Winnipeg instead of Ottawa this year.

The Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case are to be handed out on Tuesday.

This year is the 100th anniversary of Manitoba women winning the right to vote.

The province made the move three years before the federal government.
