Battlefords woman offering reward for puppy’s safe return

Two weeks after bringing a new puppy home and now more than 24 hours since he went missing, a Battlefords woman is hoping for her pet’s safe return.

“Buddy’s really friendly and he loves children. When we got him we fell in love with him,” Charlotte McCallum said. “He gets along really good with our dogs, I have a Chihuahua puppy and they cuddled every night.”

She said her seven-month-old German Shepherd Buddy was stolen from her yard early Sunday morning, Oct. 16.

McCallum said between 2 to 2:30 a.m. Sunday while she was out, her boyfriend woke up to noises outside and saw four or five people in the backyard, some trying to get in through her side door. While he went to see what was going on at the side door, someone got Buddy out of the back door through a doggy door and took him. McCallum said her boyfriend saw the people take Buddy over the fence before jumping out of the yard to run away.

McCallum said she got home just afterwards and jumped in her car to look for Buddy. She said she saw some people matching her boyfriend’s description of the suspects, but they ran from her car.

After somebody told her they saw a dog that looked like Buddy for sale in Saskatoon, McCallum decided to offer a reward for his safe return.

“I assume that whoever stole my dog is looking for money then,” she said. “So I decided I’ll offer a reward and see what happens.”

McCallum said she drove around almost all day Sunday looking for him and hung posters in hopes of someone finding him soon. She said Buddy has a stomach issue and is sensitive to dog food, so he needs special treatment.

She also filed a report with local RCMP.
