Oil spill claims discussions underway between N.B. and Husky

North Battleford has begun the claims process with Husky Energy, seeking financial compensation for the oil spill.

Talks with Husky are ongoing and city spokesperson Susanne Abe said Husky is aware of the costs the City of North Battleford faces, along with the amount administrators plan to recuperate.

Abe added the discussions between city staff and Husky representatives are being kept private at this point in time.

On Aug. 2, city council approved a 12-month plan to ensure the water supply. The plan includes the pipe linking to the town of Battleford’s water, construction of four additional wells and a filtration system to remove oil from river-sourced water so it can once again be properly treated for human consumption.
