North Stars continue winning ways by topping Bombers

There's no other way to say it: the start to the 2017-18 season for the Battlefords North Stars has been spectacular.

On Saturday night, the North Stars defeated the Flin Flon Bombers 5-2 on home ice, outshooting the visitors 48-28 to improve to 8-0-1 this year.

The North Stars wore retro jerseys on Friday night against the Melfort Mustangs, which can be bid on during Saturday's silent auction. They beat Melfort 3-2 in overtime.

North Stars top first-place Mustangs in OT on retro night

Leading into Friday's home game against the Melfort Mustangs, it seemed that North Stars captain Layne Young had pretty much done it all this season.

His 18 points in seven games were almost laughable.

Vikings finish season 5-2; lock up first place in 3A

The Marion Graham Falcons were the first team to score in Thursday's regular season finale between them and the North Battleford Comprehensive senior Vikings, but that elation didn't last long.

The Battlefords North Stars and Kindersley Klippers are in the closest division of the SJHL by far, as first to last place are currently separated by just three points.

A look at early SJHL statistical trends

At the beginning of each hockey season, there are bound to be anomolies: stats that strike you as odd or strange (sometimes for good reason).

While some trends will likely continue (Layne Young scoring lots), many of these trends won't continue.
