The first of many motion sensor lights was installed by the North Battleford Fire Department yesterday in an effort to reduce preventable crime in the city.

About 350 North Battleford customers will be affected by an early morning power outage between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Planned power outage to affect North Battleford area Tuesday

SaskPower is advising area residents of a planned power interruption early Tuesday morning from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. in North Battleford.

The area affected will be north of Territorial Drive, west of 99 St. and 30th Ave. to Saskatchewan Drive and some rural areas as well. 

While vacancy rates continue to hit historic highs in North Battleford, rent continues to increase while other communities in the same situation are lowing rent in an attempt to keep tenants.

North Battleford rent increases defying provincial trends

North Battleford seems be the anomaly in the Saskatchewan renters market, according to recent data.  While other communities have lowered rent when experiencing an increase in vacancy rates, North Battleford has increased rent while vacancy rates have climbed to an all time high.

Few details are being released but Battlefords RCMP have confirmed that they are currently investigating reports of multiple shots being fired at a residence in the north end of North Battleford.

The incident happened at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

With cannabis consumption and growing set to be legalized next year, the SKLA is advising landlords in the province to prohibit all smoking on their properties.

A provincial landlord association is recommending owners of rental units not allow their tenants to smoke marijuana on balconies, or be allowed to grow marijuana in a building they occupy.

The City of North Battleford's housing needs survey shows an "overwhelming" number of residents want more affordable housing.

Consulting firm V3 Companies from Saskatoon presented the results of the survey at two public open house meetings on Nov. 2.
