Millennials are often accused of being lazy, uniformed and selfish; interested only in selfies and looking for ways to be offended.

Of course, this is just a stereotype – one that Dantin Cole Constant burst open last night at the unveiling of his new apparel business: DGU – Don’t Give Up at the Prince Albert Inn recently.

Constant grew up in a musical band and as such, understands struggle, discouragement and forging ahead anyway. He also has had many young people he has known from his community or met on his musical journeys who have taken their own lives or have just given up on dreams and aspirations.

DGU – The Symbol of Success, then, is a mixture of business and purpose.

It is an apparel business which will feature the DGU symbol and combine with events meant to provide encouragement.

“I’ve always wanted to be in business since I was 14,” he says. “But I wanted to help others and that is the key value of this business, DGU. I was sitting around with friends and we were drawing up logos and we came up with DGU logo. I wanted to think how to make this a social thing for people. So we are calling the logo, The Symbol of Purpose. Once you wear a DGU product you are reminded of your purpose and the main thing is to not give up.”

Constant spoke at length about the struggles of life he has seen, though he is only in his early 20s. He spoke of how people give up in little and big ways through their lives and reminded those present that there are always struggles, bullies, financial situations – but to be tenacious. Don’t Give Up.

As part of the evening, Constant invited three local musicians to perform: Shandha Burns, Colten Brass and Liam Cay.

More events like this will be planned in the future as the business takes off.

“With the help of others I really do believe DGU will be a symbol of courage for people in five years.”
