Preparations underway for United Way Charity Golf Classic

The 21st Annual Battlefords United Way Charity Golf Classic is right around the corner.

The tournament is July 9 at Jackfish Lodge Golf and Conference Centre, and preparations for the tournament are in full swing. The event is a major fundraiser for Battlefords United Way, and their Events and Campaign Co-ordinator Rose Silzer-Quinn said the money will be used to support the less fortunate.

“It’s our major fundraiser for us to make certain that we have funding to allocate to our non-profits in and around the Battlefords,” Silzer-Quinn said. “It provides food and milk for hungry kids. It helps a tremendous number of people having hardships that many of us never have to think about, let alone face.”

For just a small fee, she said the tournament is a great way to get out and enjoy a day of golf.

“It is a lot of fun,” Silzer-Quinn said about the reactions of past golfers. “They really are happy to come out and support their community in this way. And with your $125 fee, you get your golf paid, your cart is paid, you get a beautiful steak supper out.”

The shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jackfish Lodge Golf and Conference Centre, and teams of four golfers can sign up to take part.
