The Twin Rivers Curling Club hosted its 94th annual men’s open bonspiel this past weekend that saw Darren Engel, Matt Froehlich, Travis Gansauge, and Kalin Deis win the ‘A’ event.

There were 104 total curlers representing 26 separate teams at the bonspiel, competing in four events from Thursday through Sunday.

The ‘A’ winners were one of two Gansauge teams to compete, as they defeated Wayne Paul’s team in the finals. Paul’s team included Paul at skip, third Dennis Harasym, second Craig Thompson, and lead James Caffet. Engel was joined by Froehlich at third, Gansauge at second, and Deis as lead.

The ‘B’ event was won by the Fehr team with Doug Fehr, Tim Schultz, Terry Baer and Scott Anderson. Fehr defeated the Dave Garner team in eight ends. Supporting Garner was skip Dennis Simonar, second Dale Grant, and lead Jack Reid.

Winning the ‘C’ event was the Wilson team; skip Jim Wilson, third Colin Coben, second Glen Heitt, and lead Daryl Eddingfield. Wilson defeated the Tenetuik team with Cole Tenetuik, Bobby Brown, Chadd McKenzie, and Brandon Demkiw. Wilson and two of the team members will be representing Saskatchewan later this season in the Canadian Master’s Men’s Championship.

The ‘D’ bracket was won by skip Michael Thompson, third Dick Horrell, second Steven Piett, and lead Len Taylor. They defeated the second Gansauge team with Drew Wilby, Jason Barnhart, Shaun Hart and Trevor Borothel.

The Twin Rivers season wraps up this week and their annual awards and volunteer night will take place on Friday, April 7 at Twin Rivers.
