The middle wall is knocked down and the old torn upholstered seats are in a dumpster as demolition is in full swing at the Capitol Theatre in North Battleford.

The theatre was purchased by Magic Lantern Theatres on Feb. 17 and was shut down immediately for demolition and renovations.

John Hutchinson is an electrician and is overseeing the project. He said the next step is obtaining permits.

“Permits are being applied for presently,” Hutchinson said. “Once we receive approval construction can begin on the changes we wish to make.”

A handicapped bathroom on the main floor and a new concession stand are the first plans for the space.

Hutchinson couldn’t give an estimate of when the theatre will be ready to open.
