Medieval Feast coming to N.B. this weekend

Feb 9, 2017 | 5:00 AM

If you’re attending the medieval feast this weekend you better be extra nice to the queen or she could deny you of salt for your food, or even worse, make you sing in front of everyone.

According to Shirley Maze the rental supervisor at the Western Development Museum (WDM) in North Battleford, her team is trying to emulate a feast to closely resemble one during the medieval times. The dinner is scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 11.

At the event there will be a head table where the royal family will sit and get to control the show.

“The queen will be handing out punishments or rewards as she sees fit,” Maze said. “So be nice to the queen. Come prepared because as a punishment she may ask you to sing a song or recite a poem. Salt was very precious back then so the head table will be the only one with salt and as a reward the queen may allow you to have some salt or even sit at the head table.”

Maze said everyone is encouraged to dress up in timely clothing to help make the experience more real. She added there will be jesters and games of the time period. The meal feature five courses and will take two hours to complete.

“Oh, I think the most fun is the people,” Maze said. “They get involved and they just enjoy it. It is a very relaxed evening. You come just to have fun.”

This is the second year the WDM is holding a Medieval Feast and they have doubled the amount of people. Last year they had 60 people attend while this year the number has been bumped to 121. Tickets are sold out for this weekend but Maze said they will host two other feasts around Christmas next year.
