Fort Fest aims for new highs in third year

A new event looks to become a summer tradition due to constant perfect weather and great activities for the whole family.

The third annual Fort Fest took place Saturday, July 16, at Fort Battleford.

Tammy Conley-Blais, site manager at Fort Battleford, said numbers are up from last year and hopes families will circle the date in the future.

“We are hoping that Fort fest will become one of those events that folks book work off to come out to,” Conley-Blais said. “We want them to take the day off, bring the whole family and just spend the whole day here and have tons of fun,” she added.

Conley-Blais said the hottest attraction was archery lessons for the children, which was a new activity this year. Other big draws included a petting zoo and local artist Bruin playing live music all-day.

The date of the event has fluctuated over the last three years but Conley-Blais wants to make a concrete date so families can look forward to it every year and it won’t conflict with other events.

“We might have it a weekend later next year. Craven is happening right now and we lost a lot of volunteers to that,” Conley-Blais said.

As big of a success as Fort Fest was this year Conley-Blais promises it will be even bigger next year for Canada’s 150th birthday.
