Full slate of candidates for Kindersley

Voters in the Kindersley constituency will be seeing a full ballot when they go to the polls on Monday, April 4.

Candidates from the Saskatchewan Party, NDP, PC, Liberal Party and an independent are all vying for votes in the constituency southwest of the Battlefords.

SaskParty incumbent MLA Bill Boyd said the economy is a major issue in the election.

“The fortunes for agriculture producers and of course in our area, oil is a very big component as well. I think those two are the main things people are thinking about in the Kindersley constituency.”

Boyd is the only candidate from the 2011 election running again, where he won with nearly 80 per cent of the vote four years ago.

Another candidate who threw his hat in the ring is Charles Jedlicka, a teacher who is flying the NDP flag.

Jedlicka felt the money being spent by the government isn’t always benefiting everyone.

“I don’t seeing money go to consultants or executives or privatization. It works for the rich and silent investors but that’s all it benefits. It just gets really tiring watching needless spending and increases to power positions.”

Local farmer and businessman Terry Smith is running for the PC’s in the constituency and said his frustration with the current MLA, mentioning the Global Transportation Hub land sale, was the reason he decided to run.

“I ran because of what I see is happening with Bill Boyd. Boyd’s legacy is not something that I agree with. We need a good opposition party and I don’t believe Bill Boyd has spent my money the way I like to see my money being spent.”

Liberal Candidate Darren Donald did not respond to interview requests. Donald works full-time in retail in Eatonia and in his biography on his campaign website, he said he will be a strong voice even though he isn’t a politician, because he is close to the workers who drive Saskatchewan’s economy.

Former SaskParty MLA for Kindersley Jason Dearborn is running in this election as an Independent. Dearborn wasn’t able to be contacted but during his running announcement, he said he is running as an alternative to Boyd, after Boyd’s involvement in the Global Transportation Hub.

The Kindersley constituency includes Macklin, Luseland, Kerrobert and Dodsland.
