Big week for seeding numbers across northwest and central regions
The warm and dry weather allowed a big jump in seeding across the northwestern, west-central and northeastern regions of the province.
In the northwestern region, 21 per cent of the crop is in the ground according to the crop report ending on May 9, compared to only three per cent the week before. In the west-central region, seeding is well underway. 26 per cent of the crop is in the ground compared to 6 per cent last week.
Both regions are well above the five-year average for this time of the year.
Little to no rain was received in either region last week, although the Hafford area of the northwestern region reported receiving four millimetres. Areas in the west-central received rain earlier this week which will help replenish topsoil moisture.
