Mrs. Clara May LaPlante passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the Cut Knife Special Care Home at the age of 97 years. Clara was born and went to school in the Formby district. During war time, she travelled to Toronto with her sister Jean to work in the factory making parts for the BREN guns. It was there in Toronto that she met and married her husband Ernest LaPlante. After the war they moved to Spanish, Ontario to live and work. Clara had a zest for life. She had many stories from her life in Spanish, most of them were cause for much merriment and laughter. She was actively involved in the Legion Auxiliary, and gardening be it vegetables, or flowers. There were bus trips to the States, afternoons at the Legion, and of course, endless hours spent fishing with friends. Ernest passed away in 1990, Clara remained in her home at Spanish until she moved to Neilburg in 2006 to be closer to family. She resided there until her health was failing and she went to the Cutknife Care Home. She is survived by brother George, sister Lillian Peterson, many nieces and nephews, and good friend Julie Trowbridge of Spanish, Ontario. She is predeceased by her husband Ernest LaPlante, parents Margaret and Ernest Goodfellow, Brothers Russell and Richard, sisters Ethel Crunkhorn, Florence Halsall, Jean Mathews and Ella Heather. There is a peace in accepting the loss after such a long life, but an ache in the heart that stays and we learn to handle each for what they are-joy for the life and sorrow for the passing. A celebration will take place March 24, 2018 at the Neilburg Seniors Centre, 1-3 pm local time. Interment will be held at a later date in Spanish, Ontario. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Trevor Watts of Eternal Memories Funeral Service and Crematorium.
