17 Battlefords players invited to Sask First tournament

Twelve female and five male players from Battlefords teams were invited to the first set of Sask First tournaments after attending regional camps in early February.

Outlaws, Red Lions, Mohawks advance at senior provincials

The Wilkie Outlaws lost one game all season long in the Sask West Hockey League regular season, but the provincials were a new test because they were moving up into the ‘A’ bracket for the first time.

Reid's OT winner gives Stars first win in over 2 weeks

Goaltender Lance Alm stopped 40 shots and defenceman Luke Reid sniped in overtime to give the AAA Stars their first win since Jan. 29 over the visiting Saskatoon Blazers on Tuesday night at the Civic Centre.

Kevin Hasselberg was relieved of his coaching duties by the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League on Monday, after compiling a 15-15-6 record in his first 36 games with the club.

Grassroots lacrosse growing in Battlefords

The game of lacrosse has seen positive steps in recent years in the province of Saskatchewan, and there was proof of that at the grassroots level this past Sunday at the NationsWEST Field House in North Battleford.

Comp senior girls claim bronze at Viking Invitational

The North Battleford Comprehensive High School senior Vikings girls’ basketball team finished third out of 12 teams in their home tournament this past weekend, and their bronze medal win could help them in the run up to the provincial Hoopla tournament next month.

Combines face elimination after weekend losses to Silvertips

The Meota Combines have a tall task ahead of them if they want their Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League season to continue: win three in a row.

The senior men's hockey team fell 5-3 in both games one and two of their opening round playoff series against the Shellbrook Silvertips.

The AAA Stars are mathematically out of the playoff race, as they now have only two remaining games and are seven points back of the eighth place Saskatoon Blazers.

The AAA Stars will not qualify for the playoffs this season, after this weekend's action in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League saw the eighth place Saskatoon Blazers win and the AAA Stars lose twice.

Sharks drop 2 to top-ranked Stars

The first place Saskatoon Stars took two games from the Battlefords Sharks in female midget AAA action this weekend at Battleford Arena.

Saturday's game was a 5-1 win, while the rematch on Sunday was an 11-1 score.
