Bill Murfin was born in Calgary, Alberta on November 29, 1957, and spent his younger years in Alberta before moving to Saskatoon as a teenager. In 1976 Bill’s parents moved the family to Chitek Lake where he met Laurie. In 1980, they began dating and have been together ever since. (married for 42 years). They were blessed with two children, Jason in 1981 and Ashley in 1984. Bill loved being a dad and spending time with his family. They were everything to him while he worked away from home. Days off were spent camping, fishing, golfing or anything else the kids wanted to do. In 1997 Bill began working for Crossland Transport in Whitecourt, Alberta as a log hauler. He worked the winters hauling logs and would come back to Saskatchewan in the spring and work for HJR Asphalt. In 1999 he decided to work full time in Alberta and after the kids graduated, Laurie moved with him. While living in Alberta, Bill and Laurie became grandparents to four beautiful grandchildren. The love he had for his grandkids was immeasurable. He was the most fun loving “pops”, always ready and willing to try anything they wanted, sometimes getting them all in trouble. Laurie and Bill remained in Whitecourt until December of 2020, when they moved back to Chitek and Bill began working for the village. In October 2021, Bill was diagnosed with cancer. Although the next 4 years would be filled with surgeries and doctor visits, he remained his happy, genuine self, always available to help family and friends when needed. Bill was a good man, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Bill will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years: Laurie Murfin (Dougan), his children: Jason (Sharleen), Ashley ( Tyler), his grandchildren: Ainsley, Emery, Kash, John, Mathew, his mother: Loretta Bain of Dalmeny, his siblings Karen (Tony) of Abbotsford B.C., Sheri (Chester) of Chitek Lake, Brian (Andrea) of Saskatoon, his mother-in-law Patsy Dougan of Chitek Lake, his brothers-in-law Charles (Bev) Dougan of Chitek Lake, Craig (Sharon) Dougan of Chitek Lake, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his father: Harry Murfin, stepfather: William Bain and his father-in-law: William “Buck” Dougan.
