We are sad to announce the passing of Wendy Lorraine Waters of Saskatoon. Wendy was born in North Battleford, SK on July 31, 1952 to Sid and Viola “Toots” Waters.
Wendy left the family farm at Prongua, SK in her teenage years to follow her adventurous spirit which eventually led her to the Yukon Territory. She lived in Dawson City, Whitehorse and other small communities in the Yukon for almost 25 years. She was employed by the Yukon Territory Government and the Canadian Public Service Commission in various positions. She was one of the founding members of the Yukon Quest dog sled race and organized the Percy DeWolfe Mail Race dog sled race.
In 1988 she married Bill Chisholm and shortly after they moved to New Brunswick. A few years later they moved to Ruddell, Saskatchewan. Wendy made another move on her own to Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), BC where she found another place, along with the Yukon, that would always remain in her heart.
In 2001 she made a trip to Saskatoon to visit with our Mom, during this time she met and fell in love with Tom Fitzgerald. She remained in Saskatoon with Tom until her passing.
Wendy was a very accomplished artist. She was a member of artist’s guilds and groups where ever she lived. Wendy’s other passions were cooking and gardening. Over the years she organized a couple of International Cooking Clubs. She liked to experiment with recipes and entertain guests with gourmet meals. The patio in their back yard is gorgeous with a variety of plants and funky ornaments, a display of her and Tom’s personalities. Over the years family and friends have been the recipients of her many talents. Wendy loved animals especially her many cats and dogs, including her own dog sled team of Huskys.
Unfortunately Wendy has had health problems for many years. The last few years have been especially hard for her. Although her stamina enabled her to return to her painting occasionally she wasn’t able to paint as often as she would have liked,
Wendy is survived by her partner Tom Fitzgerald; mother Viola Waters and father Sid Waters, Battleford; brother Don Waters, Battleford; sisters Pat Waters, Battleford and Ellen Oppold, Whitehorse.
