With sadness we announce the death of Wayne Lloyd GARDINER, aged 79, who died December 16, 2024 from complications after open heart surgery 10 months earlier.
Wayne was the eldest son of the late Kathleen & Lloyd Gardiner of North Battleford, SK.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Gary Gardiner, his sister Sara (formerly known as Melody) Gardiner, nephew Tim Lindsay and niece Laura Lindsay.
After 37 years of happy marriage, he leaves behind his loving wife, Carol Louise Baird Gardiner.
From his former marriage to Sheila Bainbridge Gardiner he leaves behind daughter Leanne Gardiner Remillard (Don) and son Ian Gardiner (Archana).
Also outliving him is older sister Wendy Gardiner Lindsay (Rob), nephew Adam Gardiner (Ayaz) and cousin Brian Gardiner.
Wayne received his education at BCI in Battleford. He earned the nickname “professor” due to his wealth of knowledge that he was always happy to share. Wayne graduated from NBCI in North Battleford and pursued a year of study at the University of Saskatchewan’s School of Engineering. His inquisitive nature remained with him all his life and he was proud to be a member of Mensa.
Like many Albertans, Wayne spent most of his career in the oil patch, where he trained as a wireline operator. He mainly worked in Northern Alberta and the Canadian North. However, his expertise also took him to the Middle East, where he was employed by American oil companies in Libya, Egypt and Abu Dhabi.
Over the years, Wayne and Carol teamed up to make use of their Sherwood Park acreage – first running a boarding kennel and currently the popular Carol’s RV Storage.
Music was an important part of Wayne’s interests throughout his entire life. In his youth, he was a proud member of the North Battleford City Kinsmen Band. His musical skill – plus his stature and strength – made him the ideal band member to proudly play the large, shiny Sousaphone. He enjoyed travelling with the band to march in parades and perform on-ice. As a teenager, he sang in the choir at St Paul’s Anglican Church and often took home prizes for his solos in the local music festival. Later, in Edmonton, as work allowed, he enjoyed singing in choirs again, including the Cosmopolitan Choir. Wayne appeared on stage over the years in a number of leading roles in the productions of “Love According to John.” Wayne was also a popular guest soloist at weddings and funerals for most of his life.
Wayne’s funeral is being held at 11 a.m. July 2 at the Alliance Church of Sherwood Park, 1011 Clover Bar Road.
