It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Valerie Napier on January 13, 2024, at the Mel Miller Hospice in Edmonton.
Valerie was born on January 31, 1945, in North Battleford to Elizabeth Greig and John Palmquist. After graduating from COCJ High School, she was introduced on a blind date to Jim Napier on December 31, 1963, and they were married at Third Avenue United Church on May 15, 1965. After a short stay in Regina, they moved to Edmonton in 1967 where they remained and raised their family. When their children were in school, Valerie returned to her first job in the banking industry and eventually retired from CIBC in 1999.
Valerie loved all dogs, camping, playing cards, watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Oilers, completing cross stitch and embroidery projects, and visiting with friends and family.
Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jim; her son, Alan; her daughters, Maureen Ross (Tom) and Deborah Schwarz (Paul); and her grandchildren, Scott and Johnathan Schwarz and Emma, Liam, and Samuel Ross. She was predeceased by her parents, her aunts and uncles, and several cousins.
At Valerie’s request, no formal service will take place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mel Miller Hospice in care of Covenant Health, Edmonton General Hospital, where she spent her final months surrounded by love, dedicated and compassionate care, and peace.
