It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that Jackie’s family announce her passing on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Battleford Union Hospital, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan at the age of 73 years.

Ursula Jacqueline Mary (Jackie) was born on February 6, 1948 to John and Doreen Perry, on Station Road, in Humber Mouth, City of Corner Brook, Nfld.  Jackie was one of 15 children, and she spent the first part of her life growing up on Station Road in Corner Brook with numerous (really millions) of cousins, aunts, and uncles. Jackie went to All Hallows on Humber Road and Presentation Central High. After school, she worked for Canadian National Telephones across Canada, and in various other jobs.

It was in Gander, Newfoundland, while working as an operator, that she met Jim, her husband of 48 years.  They were married in November of 1972 and started their journey across Canada together.  This journey took them to Trenton, Ontario; Whitehorse, Y.T; Edmonton, Alberta; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Debert, Nova Scotia; Ottawa, Ontario; Shilo, Manitoba; Moose Jaw (again) and ended in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Jackie made friends in all of the places she worked and lived.  Being a little shy it took a while, but when you were allowed in you were never allowed to leave.  Jackie kept busy at home with three kids (including her husband) and with her work outside the home, and handled it all with aplomb and was loved by all.

Jackie will be remembered for her sense of humor, her distinctive, infectious laugh, and her “gift of the gab”.  She was affectionately known as “the woman that took a half hour to say goodbye.”  She had a huge heart and compassion for everyone, and was always willing to help family and friends with whatever she could.  Jackie would often be found at the kitchen table reading her newspaper with a coffee and cigarette, or on the phone with a sibling or friend for one of her marathon conversations.  She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and created many beautiful items that will be treasured.  Jackie also enjoyed playing games with her family and grandchildren, and to everyone’s annoyance, would often win, even when she didn’t understand the rules.

Jackie was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Mary, and her brothers: Francis, Steve, and Charles.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim, daughter, Jennifer (Martin), and son, Jim. She will also be hugely missed by her grandchildren: Devan, Teagan, James, Jaidyn, and Markus as well as her siblings: Bernice (Stan), Betty-Anne (Ken), John (Linda), Suzanne (Ing), Frank (Anne), Tom (Judy), Louise, George (Dorothy), Greg (Bev), Michael (Verna), extended family, and friends.

Our family would like to thank the teams in the ICU and acute care at Battleford Union Hospital for the care, support, and kindness shown to Jackie and our family during this difficult time.

Jackie wished for no big send off, and as per her wishes, there will be no service and she will be cremated and eventually buried with her husband.

Thank you everyone for the love, memories, and well wishes we have received. She would be so surprised and happy.
