It is with sadness the family of Ted Nicholson announce his passing on November 15, 2020 at the age of 87 in North Battleford. Ted was born on his parent’s farm in the Speers district on March 12, 1933.
He was the first son of Eddie (Edwin) and Vivian (nee Curry) Nicholson. Ted attended school in Speers and after graduating high school, attended the University of Saskatchewan and attained his Diploma in Agriculture in 1954. He began working for the National Grain Company as an elevator agent and also continued to help on the family farm. He married Sally (Sylvia) Huziak on April 21, 1960 in Speers where they started their family. In 1966 Ted was transferred to Provost, Alberta where the family remained for a year before again being transferred to Peace River, Alberta. In 1971 Ted returned to Speers to farm with his brother Nelson on the family farm. He and Nelson continued to farm until the 90’s when they both retired. Ted was active in the United Church and the local Kinsmen Club and served as a volunteer fire fighter in Speers. He was instrumental in establishing the nursing home in Hafford as well. Ted served as town councillor in Speers for a number of years and as Mayor, a position he held for 31 years.
Ted is survived by Sally, his wife of 60 years; his 2 sons Kim and Dean; son-in-law, Kevin; grand-daughter, Aspyn; and his brother, Nelson. He was predeceased by his father, Edwin (1937), step-father Art Nicholson (1971), mother Vivian (1977), son Todd (2012) and daughter Darcee (2017).
