Robert (Bob) Hunter Westwater passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2017 at the age of 91 years in Red Deer, Alberta. Bob was born to George and Rachel (nee Hunter) in Scott, SK on November 16, 1925. He grew up on a farm near Cloan, SK and was raised by his Mom and infamous Uncles after the passing of his father in 1937. Like his father, Bob enlisted in the army in 1943 and served for 3 years, after his time in the service he returned to the Cloan area where he met and married Gladys McConnell in 1950. They made their home in Wilkie, SK where he began his career as a fireman on the Canadian Pacific Railway and started a family. Bob and Gladys had two children Kenny and Patti. In 1961, he retired from the CPR and began farming on the Hunter family farm. Bob was an honourary Legion member and a member of the Elks Club. He managed the Wilkie Outlaws from 1961-1966 and 1972-1979. He lived a full life and surrounded himself with family and friends. He loved to curl, fish, golf, and cheer on his Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was passionate about living and was fortunate to travel to Las Vegas, Hawaii and Lake Havasu with Gladys and later with this companion Neoma. Despite his travels Bob’s most favourite place in the world was sitting on the deck at “Cochin Ocean” for happy hour. Bob was predeceased by his parents, his sister Janet Young, his wife Gladys Westwater (nee McConnell), his son Kenny Westwater and his companion Neoma Barton. He leaves to mourn his daughter Patti (David) Knisely, daughter-in-law Valerie Westwater; grandchildren: Nadine (Mike) George, Nichole (Joe) Roberge, Reid (Julie) Knisely, Shaun (Amanda) Westwater and Curtis (Carrie) Westwater; sister and brother-in laws Marg & Bob Afseth, Annette McConnell and Denis Ross. He also leaves to mourn his 5 great-grandchildren: Jager, Gracie, Hudson, Ally and Cruz along with nieces and nephews. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Sallows and McDonald-Wilson and Zehner Funeral Home (1271 103rd St) in North Battleford, SK on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 at 1:00pm.
