It is with profound sadness and heavy broken hearts that the family of Paul James Slater, born May 18th, 1974, of North Battleford, Sk., announces his sudden passing on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at the age of 47. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his uncles: Jerry Slater (Laura),their children: Gord Slater (Colleen), aunt, Wanda Slater (Tony Klimas),their daughters: Jayne Slater, her son, Noah, Suzzanne Slater (Brandon Boudreau), their daughter, Lillian.
Paul was born and raised in North Battleford. He was affectionately know as Paulos, to family and friends. He fought many debilitating health battles starting from a young age and continued throughout the remainder of his life. His battles included cancer, diabetic ketoacidosis, heart disease and kidney disease. He fought hard through it all. He was his own advocate for his health and wasn’t afraid to voice his explicit opinions on these all his health issues.
His favorite past times were coffee with his uncle Jerry and aunt Laura, and babysitting their fur babies. Watching movies with aunt Wanda and uncle Tony, Having conversations and joking around with uncle Gord.
He enjoyed his Stephen King Novels, his movie collection, his vehicles, travelling, boating, fishing, talking and sending funny clips to his friends and family through Facebook and messenger. Last but not least, his beloved tattoos.
He had recently purchased a boat and was planning a trip with family and friends. He was very proud of obtaining his boating license and getting all the required necessities for his first trip to the lake.
As many of you know, Paul was a hard working man who and took great pride in his job at Battleford Housing Authority. He always gave best. It saddened him when his health started to decline and he had to step away from his job.
He shared many funny stories about the quirky predicaments he had gotten himself into while working. He had hoped that one day he would be able to return.
He will be remembered for the generous man he was. He was giving of the time he could spare to help others on their projects. He had a wicked sense of humour that the family enjoyed. His love of animals was apparent to everyone. He often picked up strays and then found them their furrever homes with his friends and families.
He had just recently made friends with a little black sleek kitten. He immediately bought her treats, so he could feed her and visit with her outside.
Paulos’ other super power was that he could make friends anywhere he went in life. He made many friendships via social media with people he never had a chance to meet, but had hoped to one day.
Paul was predeceased by his mother, Jeannie A. Slater, uncle, Jim Slater, grandparents, Jean E. and Joseph A. Slater, all of North Battleford, Sk..
A private viewing for family was held on June 15th. A private family Celebration of Life will take place later this summer.
