Meda was born the youngest of ten children to George and Hilda Bracken in Codette, Saskatchewan.
She was predeceased by her father George, her mother Hilda and her nine siblings: Marvel, Wonitta, Evelyn, Gertrude, Doreen, Mildred, Verda, Delbert and Frank.
She was also predeceased by her husband Bob.
Many in the family were musical and Meda played for dances when she was as young as eight years old, with her father and two brothers Delbert and Frank.
She could play any stringed instrument by ear but her main instruments were accordion, banjo and guitar.
Meda went to Marvel Hairdressing School in Saskatoon after high school and become a journeyman hairdresser.
When she worked in Nipawin she came to know Jehovah in her early twenties. She met Bob and they were married in that community on October 11, 1958.
They made their home there until they moved a few years later to Porcupine Plain, where she established her own hairdressing salon. Meda was a supportive wife and homemaker and together they built their life on the farm.
Bob and Meda welcomed identical twin girls, Fernendel and Ferleen, in 1964 and were thrilled when Ian, their son, was born in 1977.
Her children went on to have their own families.
Throughout her life, while being the youngest in her family, she always sought to maintain close relationships with her siblings.
Meda particularly had a close bond with her brother Del, who was confined to a wheelchair as a result of complications from polio. She remembered him learning to play the violin on his back during his teen years and eventually he became a Canadian Old Time Fiddling Champion more than once in addition to being a self taught craftsman of fine violins.
She also enjoyed being a part of Bob’s large family, also a family with ten siblings. They were all supportive of one another and enjoyed many good times together.
She absolutely loved being with and having her family around her.
Sadly, her heart was broken with the death of her husband Bob in November, 2015. Since that time, she has lived in North Battleford where she could be close to her son, Ian.
Even in declining health, she was known right down to the end as a sweetheart who liked to talk and addressed everyone as “dear”.
Meda had strong faith in Jehovah God and, in good health, loved sharing the truths about everlasting life in paradise and seeing loved ones again in the resurrection.
A Memorial Service for Meda will be held on October 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witness, 352 30 Street West, Battleford, Saskatchewan. Meda will be laid to rest at a later date at the Carragana Presyerian Cemetery in Carragana, Saskatchewan.
